Anatomy of Survival: How to survive a family weekend

Survival Guide on family weekend

As one of the eldest cousins/nieces/granddaughters in my mom's family line, I have been around many a family celebration and this would be one of my ways to pay homage to the fun, sentimental and eccentric get-togethers that our family has organized through the years.

Also as the title suggests, readers can also find the list of the important elements that make up the anatomy of my family celebration, both the usual and not-so-usual ones. So let me begin our tour in one of the biggest allotment of family budget every year: family weekend get-togethers:

Elements to take note of:

(1) Food / Activities

(2) Accommodation/logistics

(3) Theme of the get-together

Let's do this first exhibit, the most recent in my photo album.

The triple birthday celebration was at the Volet's Resort, DasmariƱas City and it looks something like this as we took lots of family pictures

Of course the family was always worried about food, especially because the celebration usually entails a big number of people with a big appetite especially after swimming (especially in this setting) so food will always be the first on the list.

The next to worry about would be learning to swim deep waters literally because most of my cousins and family members love to swim deep pools and surf the waves in the wave pool along with cruising the lazy river. My other cousin even tried to swim the lazy river counter clockwise so we are never short of eccentric ideas especially when it comes to water, swimming and getting soaked.

Next stop is the accommodation.
We have been pretty much travelling a lot as a big whole family, just imagine the vans and cars we needed to have to get us to different places that we wanted to spend our vacation in. Hence logistics has been one of the main priorities when the talk of having a vacation comes up.

Of course, the next in the list is that we have been very mindful of milestones in our family members' lives so we really celebrate them as much as we can. There were so many milestones not included in my limited pictures, but the ones I have are indeed very momentous and a source of good memory for all of us.

This last photo was of course a visit to our ancestors who have left us but of course we remember them once a year, and it was also turned into a mini-celebration because of course family get together means eating and talking and planning (the next vacation). Those are really good memories, especially when it is not so hot in the memorial park, we just spread some blanket and voila, we have an instant picnic, complete with food and cake and drinks. We never run out of reason to celebrate and feast haha!

Just random pictures that I found sitting in my computer:

So finally to conclude this post, surviving family weekend would take a lot of planning and coordination for the family to have a good time/vacation. But of course the elements I wrote above must be considered first so one could have a clue about the general mood and flow of energy of the whole family.

I would expound on this topic in the next post.
